Thank you Mr. Westcott for your efforts. I hope that you are successful. As a Kentucky concealed carry citizen, Illinois is the only state bordering us that I am not allowed to legally defend myself with my concealed firearm. Next month I'm travelling from my home in Lexington, KY to Branson, MO and must detour around Illinois to reach my destination.

This is great news for Illinois. I live in the south suburbs. I work in rough part gary, Indiana. let me tell you all this. I have my CCW in Indiana and I truthfully never had 1 problem. I feel safer their then Chicago by far. When you have your gift from god, MY GUN THAT IS you feel so secure and safe. All i know the kinda work I'm in all the bad guys are fleeing to ILLINOIS BECAUSE IT IS A GUN FREE ZONE. But not for the bad guys.

Good Luck. I am surprised when I moved here how antigun people are here. Guns do not commit crimes; people commit crimes of violence with or without guns. I see it stated in most gun right supporting sites that statistics state that crime has lessened in all states with Concealed Carry right. When a Chicago Cop cannot own a gun and keep it in his house in Chicago, there is definitely something wrong with this picture. Cops are criminals too it seems here.

HI my name is brian williams and I am from whiteside county where there has been the most recent murders by nick sheley pissed me off in more than one way about how the cops just couldnt catch him and his body count grew and we are supposed to trust the police to protect us. I really belive that If we had a conceal and carry law this wouldnt of happend at least not like it did I belive that he would have been to scared to try anything like he did for fear of getting shot or less people would have died. My point is that people should take resposability for there own life because when it come down to it police are not going to protect you because are laws are here to protect the evil and harm the good. After this nick shley spree I wanted to get a gun but looks like if I do Ill have to lock it up and if somone broke into my house me and my family would moe than likey be dead before I could get to it. For the safty of the people and the country we need good peole with guns thank you and good luck.

Mr Wescott; Thanks for your support of CCW in the state of Illnois. With all of the information available, I'm unable to understand why Illnois and Wisconsin still cling to the view that legal firearms cause crime. Can the legislatures not see the facts. When more people legally carry crime goes down. My view is that the judical system inforce all existing firearms related laws and applaud those who carry to protect their familys. After all, the job of law enforcement is to solve the crime. Not prevent it. Chuck Sander

Stand your ground and hold it firm! Gun Control Laws do nothing to serve the best interests of law abiding citizens and it baffles me beyond belief that we have elected officials in office that believe that they do. Criminals are criminals and there isn't one that follows the law. The 2nd Amendment is NON-NEGOTIABLE and we need to make it clear to these elected officials who seek to take away our rights. I am behind you 200%. We have a right to defend ourselves, our families, and our livlihoods.

I have been shooting guns since I was 8 yrs. old. My neighbor taught me gun safety and how to shoot. I have been a Bird/deer hunter for over 16 years. I now only own shotguns and one rifle to hunt with. I have recently picked up bow hunting because of all of the restrictions. I shoot handguns at least once a month with my friend but still do not own one. Why you may ask.....How will it help me in Illinois when I can't carry to protect myself. The crime situation is out of control in this state...and the criminals are not the only ones abusing the right....My friend in a neighboring city just got pulled over by the police for an expired village vehicle registration sticker....2 police officers came at him with guns drawn....ridiculous. All around, both police and citizens will be much nicer/law abiding if people of this state have the right to carry and protect themselves. The criminals don't practice...they shoot at anything....law abiding citizens practice and hit their target.....if needed their will not be senseless killings.....only protection. If guns kill people...pens misspell words

Peter Staack said:   June 20, 2008 6:00 pm PST
I am relieved to see that there is still some hope left for Second Amendment rights for law-abiding Illinois citizens. The latest strings of gun violence against unarmed citizens has proven that archaic anti-gun laws do nothing, but empower criminals. I strongly support any measures to help tip the scales back towards common sense, and allow law-abiding Illinois citizens to own and carry firearms.

The Cook County anti-gun crowd paints an image of gun-toting cowboys gun slinging in the streets of Chicago with their CCW permits. That's not at all the case. 48 other CCW states prove Daley's flawed anti-firearm/anti-handgun theory incorrect. . . It is our right to protect ourselves outside of our homes from the heavily-armed gangs and thugs so prevalent in Illinois. The local police can only be in so many places to 'serve and protect' us average citizens.

David McDaniel said:   June 12, 2008 7:40 pm PST
Thank you for your efforts to restore the basic human right of self defense to the people of Illinois, as I am tired of the representatives of the municipal monarchies undermining my 2nd Amendment rights. Having seen random stops by state troopers at a "gun checkpoint" along I-57 near Effingham in the past year, I nearly chucked my F.O.I.D. card out the window with the thought of moving to a "free state". It's time for "shall issue" CCW licenses and reasonable self defense laws in Illinois. As you know, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Unfortunately, as it stands now, when they arrive they will prosecute you if you have rightfully defended yourself or family members.

Jim Ditsworth said:   June 12, 2008 4:15 pm PST
It is a shame that we even have to have this movement. The Founding Fathers provided us with the "right to keep and bear arms" for self protection, hunting and sport. The modern day culture on "gun control", and most all the laws passed regarding it, are unreal, and un-Constitutional. To take away the "peoples" right, one has to alter the Constitution. Me thinks this will never happen. I will use conceal carry, if made law, but I really believe I have the "right" already, "natural right" as well as "Constitutionally right"

Bill Scott said:   June 12, 2008 4:00 pm PST

At the time of the threats, the police all stated they couldn't do anything until he hurt someone...A little too late for us so we carried illigally. Back then though it wasn't a Fellony! We need this right more than ever. Thanks to all that work toward this goal. Mike Rowe

I am not an Illinois resident, but frequently travel through Illinois. When I travel, I arrange my trip so I do not have to stay over night in Illinois and I try to not have to stop. This is because of the lack of CCW reciprocity (I unload and lock my pistol in the trunk when passing through Illinois). If Illinois had a CCW law that recognized reciprocity, I would defiantly change my travel patterns and spend more time and money in Illinois.

It's gratifying to see someone (Winnebago County, in this case) taking the initiative to lead the charge in restoring law-abiding citizens' legal protection for the right to carry the means of effective self-defense. As a paraplegic who is confined to a wheelchair, and as holder of two permits from other states, recognized in about two dozen states, I am outraged that my own state mandates that I be defenseless.

Richard Johnson said:   June 11, 2008 6:18 am PST
I don't live in Winnebago County, or even in Illinois, but in Virginia. My wife however is from Hinsdale, and her family still lives there. When she first moved here she was surprised to find out that she could get a concealed handgun permit. Shoot, she was surprised to find out she could buy a gun. Period. Since then she has gotten her CHP and owns several guns that are "HERS." We probably would come to visit her family more if we could carry our guns that the Commonwealth of Virginia thinks we're safe enough to carry. It's a shame Illinois doesn't feel the same way about it's citizens. Oh. When my wife was urging me to get my permit, she made a great argument that came from the depths of experience. She said "IF WE (the people) don't take advantage of this law, "they" will say, "No one wants this law. Let's repeal it." Stand firm my brothers and sisters in Illinois. Go on the offensive and make the other side respond to us for a change.

Thank you for your efforts! While currently a Kane County resident, I support what you are doing for the citizens of Winnebago County. Hopefully, it will spread across all of Illinois. 48 other states provide the means for citizens to defend themselves. Why should IL be any different? As much crime as there is in the greater Chicagoland area, law-abiding citizens NEED a means of self-defense. Keep up the great work, and and God bless.

I support your effort to get the Sheriff to issue concealed weapons carry permits. I've been a CCW permit holder for nearly 7 years. I've been a gun owner and shooter for over 40 years. I can personally attest to the serious attitude, and responsible behavior of my fellow CCW holders. Every one I've meet, and that numbers in the hundreds, is a safety conscious and competent gun handler. And, their presence is definitely keeping a lid on the crime rate around here.

Thank you for your support of CC. I am a South Beloit resident and wish to help secure my right to protect myself. The national average response time for a 911 call is 11 minutes. That is very good, but would you really want to be left alone with an attacker for 11 minutes? I do not, I would like the ability to defend myself in 6 seconds - the average time it takes to draw a firearm. Refusing the right to carry only harms law abiding citizens. It lets the people who should NOT be carrying guns (ie - violent perpetrators) but do it anyway they have carte blanch to select any victim they desire. One need only compare the crime statistics in this state to the statistics of other states to see that CC helps protect the public.

Concealed carry is a way that many regular folks are using to provide for their own protection in circumstances where police simply cannot be there in time. As a Texan, I find that concealed carry helps reduce the crime rate and increase the personal security of everyone (even those who chose to NOT exercise their Second Amendment rights), and encourage any polity to enact laws and regulations which will allow and encourage law abiding citizens to carry personal protection.

We need it everywhere in Illinois, including here in Iroquois County. The Federal Constitution ALREADY gives us the right to carry whether metrosexual politicians like it or not, but we need to have legislation here in Illinois that affirms what our Constitution already has stated since 1791...

I have been a certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor fin SW Florida for the past 4 years and a NRA Instructor for the past 10 years. I have trained thousands of civilians for the concealed weapons permit in Florida. I am a huge supporter for thistype of permit. In any state in the country you can look at the statistics and make your case but there is not one state in the union that has offered concealed permits for the public and the crime rate has risen because of those same permits. It is a proven fact that armed citizens stop the criminals ability to harm the public. Gunshots don't even have to be fired inorder for the law to be an effective measure. When the CWP was first offered to the public in Florida there was an increase in crime at the airport, the police couldn't understand why this was happening until they finally asked a young gangbanger why there was so much crime at the airport? His responce and I quote was "I know that the guy coming off a plane aint carrying a gun but if I try and jack somebody on the street I could get shot it just aint safe to rob on the street anymore." I think those words show to those who oppose any concealed carry laws from coming to fruition that concealed carry is the only choice for many of us and is the only choice if they truelly do want to put the civilians safety from the obvious risk to bed for good. If you have any questions you have my Email address.

I am a strong believer in common sense laws and in these stressful times in our country I believe it's time for law abiding citizens to be in a position to defend themselves with CCW against the armed evils we face today in our society.I believe that if the CCW law is passed,it will become a major deterrent to crimes done against law abiding citizens simply by putting the question of doubt in the minds of criminals to whether their chosen victims are armed or not.I back you 100% on this issue fred.Thank you

I am on the Board of Health of McHenry County and commend your attempts to get a concealed carry law in your county. What more precious commodity do we have than that of our own lives and that of other law abiding citizens. The myth that if we let law abiding citizens have the right to concealed carry that it would become like the wild west is just that a myth and has been debunked by various federal and state police studies. I can't think of a better vaccine to protect me than a 45 cal. Gov. Model 1911 on my person. Good luck and if you get it done let me know how you did it and I will do it here in McHenry County.

Mr. Wescott, I wish you the best of luck in gaining the right to permit concealed carry in Winnebago County! I'm currently a resident of Will County, so unfortunately, this would not apply to me, however it is a huge step toward allowing the residents of Illinois the right and means to defend themselves. I am certain the the lives of the women who were executed at the Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park could have been spared, had they been afforded the option to defend themselves against an armed assailant. Yet even after that, the Village of Tinley Park still wanted to ban firearms within the incorporated city limits. I never did hear the outcome, but either way, those board members are still in office, when they should, in my opinion be immedately relieved of their positions for violating the civil rights of the residents of Tinley Park. Why punish law abiding citizens? The last I knew, criminals didn't care about laws. That's why they're criminals! As it currently stands, I have been exploring the option of moving to Northwest Indiana, so that I'll still be in the Greater Chicagoland area, but have the right to carry a concealed weapon. I applaud your efforts, and hope that someday, the residents of this state will finally see the light and elect officials who support our rights, instead of legislating them away. Keep up the good work, Sir!

Fred, I plan to be at the meeting at Memorial Hall next week to show my support of a Conceal Carry Law. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 5:30 PM-7:00 PM Veterans Memorial Hall ~ Auditorium 211 North Main Street ~ Rockford, IL Us law abiding citizens have the 2nd Amendment Right to "Keep and Bear Arms." Many great people have given their best, and even their life to protect our right to enjoy this constitutional right. As a law abiding citizen of Winnebago County, the State of Illinois and the United States of America I support and approve the Winnebago County Boards approval of a law confirming our right to bear arms and protect ourselves from the lawless individuals that currently are occupying our city, county, state and country.

I am a lifelong resident of Winnebago county, a law abiding citizen and a gun owner for over 35 years. I believe it is my right to protect and defend my home and myself. I would like to voice my support for concealed carry and I urge the Winnebago County Board to pass this resolution.

I thank you for your efforts to restore the basic human right of self defense to at least a portion if the state. Get your resolution passed and let the real debate begin. Illinoisâ?? patchwork of local, county and state laws must yield to our basic civil rights. I donâ??t appreciate being a second class citizen in my own state.
